These works are made of special paper seen in the “Tanabata Matsuri,” or the Star Festival, which is a Japanese traditional event. They transform themselves from two-dimensional shapes into three-dimensional shapes. Since I was a little child I have been fascinated with the form of this paper. The harmony created by these delicate pleats evokes the sweet and pleasant memories of my childhood and the days when I played with my little daughters. In these works, I am trying to give a clear and tranquil atmosphere which I feel with my eyes closed. Using magnets, the pieces can be neatly opened and closed.
