Marie Louise Kristensen

To Marie Louise Kristensen, jewellery can be mystical, playful, serious, dangerous, powerful and so much more. Its history is enchanting to this artist, the tradition and the materials themselves; the sparkling stones, silver and gold, plastic, acrylic and all the unusual or more common bits and pieces that surround us. She finds that these are all fragments that represent her. Fragments which can be combined infinitely into new adventures and are assigned to interpretation and meaning, standing out to provide news from odd corners of a round world.

Marie Louise Kristensen was born in Copenhagen in 1971. She studied at the Institute of Precious Metals – School of Goldsmiths. Copenhagen, where she graduated in 2004. She holds a jewellery teaching post at the KUNSTHØJSKOLEN, Holbæk. She has taken part in numerous prestigious exhibitions internationally, in museums, private galleries and has recently taken part in Schmuck 2010 in Munich and Collect at the Saatchi Gallery in London. She has been awarded several grants and recently won a residency at the Danish Institute in Rome.
