Alternatives Gallery specializes in the promotion of contemporary jewellery. The necessity of sustaining the culture of contemporary jewellery in Italy was the driving force behind the formation of the gallery in 1997.
The gallery has always been active in supporting jewellery as a cultural expression of our time and has over the years become an important reference point on an international level in the field.
A thorough search and selection of the best international designers is carried out, so as to satisfy both private collectors, clients and institutional spaces, and to be in a position to offer the most innovative works on the market today.
Alternatives operates both on a national and international level; nationally by means of organizing prestigious solo and group exhibitions in the premises, in which both talented newcomers and internationally renowned artists are presented, and internationally by means of taking part in events such as Collect at the Victoria & Albert Museum, organized by the British Crafts Council.
In order to add force to their venture, the directors of Alternatives, together with a group of artists operating in this field, founded the first contemporary jewellery association in Italy in 2004.
Furthermore, Alternatives is part of a circuit of international galleries that host touring exhibitions. The aim is that of making the Italian scene more aware of what happens on an international level and to encourage exchange.
The gallery is situated in the heart of ancient Rome, in a space that has been conceived to bring together spectator and the finished piece, in order to establish reciprocal communication. It is with communication in mind that Alternatives aims to promote and give value to a new way of interpreting jewellery, intended to satisfy the need for a diverse and more sophisticated personal statement.
