Charlotte Skalegård
Charlotte Skalegård makes use of very fine stainless steel wire to create pieces with a knitting technique, the end result being semi-transparent pieces with an elaborate textile finish. She transforms this industrial, grey, unassuming material into poetic sculptures for the body. Skalegård is fascinated by the idea that even the least valuable of materials, like stainless steel, can be rendered precious by her own lengthy contribution in the making process of the piece.
Her jewellery has a very intimate relationship with the body, insofar as it seems to re-design its outline and its correlation with the surrounding space.
Skalegård often takes inspiration from natural forms, like plants and trees. Her "Bulbs" as the title suggests, are inspired by nature, as are her latest "Memory of a Tree" collection.
