Charlotte Skalegård
Charlotte Skalegård was born in Sweden in 1954. She obtained a Master of Fine Arts at the Konstindustriskolan at Göteborg University, Department of Metalart.
Her work was selected to take part in Schmuck 2000, at the Internationale Handwerksmesse in Munich. She has taken part in several exhibitions in Sweden, Italy, UK, Spain, Poland, The Netherlands, Ireland, Germany, Denmark, Iceland. In 2001 she gained a scholarship from the Karl Ingemar Johansson Fund.
Charlotte Skalegård makes use of very fine stainless steel wire to create pieces with a knitting technique, the end result being semi-transparent pieces with an elaborate textile finish. She transforms this industrial, grey, unassuming material into poetic sculptures for the body. Skalegård is fascinated by the idea that even the least valuable of materials, like stainless steel, can be rendered precious by her own lengthy contribution in the making process of the piece.
Her jewellery has a very intimate relationship with the body, insofar as it seems to re-design its outline and its correlation with the surrounding space.
