Katy Hackney

"I like to make jewellery from unusual materials; at present I use 'vintage' formica and plywood - it brings back memories of old cafes, granny's table, times gone by. It's hard to find, therefore making it more precious. I get it from old stock in ironmongers shops, skips, second hand shops and friends. I make brooches with silver 'drawings' of stylised plants and trees, and bits of old melamine and other plastics attached by lots of tiny silver wires and screw threads, hidden inside, to (hopefully) create something quite calm, each one unique."
